marriage for Mary Truman and Samuel Gill
« on: Wednesday 25 February 15 15:14 GMT (UK) »
hello. I hope this is the right room for this request, i know she is from yorkshire but the different districts im not sure on.
Im searching for the marriage of Mary Truman (maiden name provided by her son's birth cert). I have her in Derbyshire unstone census 1841 onwards with her husband Samuel Gill. Birth given is 1808 in Ecclesfield, yorks. Have found a potential christening for 26 june 1808, father a Josiah Truman. Not sure if this is right but seems the most likely.
Have tried to look for a marriage for them i guess around 1830 , her first child is Louisa gill bn 1833 in unstone.
Hope someone can help. Thanks Tracey

Unstone to Rotherham is around 14.5 miles by today's roads - Google Maps.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I have the Ecclesfield transcriptions.
Born 3 Jun 1808 baptised 26 June 1808 Mary TRUEMAN Father Jonah/Josiah

Our transcription gives the father's name as Jonah, but given that there is only 5 baptisms for a TRUEMAN family at Ecclesfield St Mary and on all the others the father is Josiah, I would think that Josiah was correct. A later baptism in 1818 gives Josiah's wife's name as Ann.

It was not unusual for a marriage to take place at Rotherham All Saints (now Minster) for a bride from Ecclesfield

I have found this burial at Ecclesfield St Mary.

13 Nov 1825 Josia TRUEMAN aged 53 of Masborough. Rotherham

This burial gives the address in 1819 as Ecclesfield, so they appear to have moved between 1819-1825

12 Oct 1819 Josiah TRUEMAN aged 15 son of Josiah of Ecclesfield.
