MULHOLLAND/MCPEAK OF IRELAND - FURTHER HELP NEEDED
« on: Thursday 26 February 15 10:54 GMT (UK) »
Good Morning Everyone

I was hoping to have some more help, if possible.

I'm currently working on one branch of my tree and hitting a brick wall.

I've got as far back as 1820's which see's William Mulholland living in Ireland with his wife Isabella Mulholland (Maiden name McPeak)

I have that they had one son in 1828 also called William. I believe he was born in ireland but then moved to Glasgow. He was married to Mary Smith in 1858 - I've posted this marrage certificate previously on here and got help reading the writing. Mary was also from Ireland.

I'm trying to establish the following - Did William and Mary travel from Ireland to Glasgow together and if so how?

Did his parents remain in Ireland and did they have any other children.

How would I find any information about them. Ie births deaths, marriages etc

I've tried everything I can think of online but keep drawing a blank. Its possible that there are no records in existence and there fore the trail ends with William Mulholland senior.

I don't have enough experience to dig any deeper. Any help anyone would offer would be so appreciated.

Paul

I expect the Ireland experts will be on soon!

But, as Civil Registration only began in Ireland in 1845, you need Church Records.
And for that you need to know the county, the townland or parish, and their religious denomination?

Try Familysearch or irishgenealogy.ie - they may have records?

Have you any clues as to where they came from in Ireland? At that period there are no comprehensive records like civil registration so religion and some more precise location is needed.

PS Mulholland and McPeak are common names in Magherafelt district (Co Londonderry) - any evidence of a link to here?

Portrush used to have a ferry link to Glasgow - was that where they were living or just the port of departure? Portrush is right on the border of Co Londonderry (the western outskirts of the town are in that county) for which the 1831 census survives. Sadly this census only gives the name of the head of household, how many males and females are in it, and their religions. This is crucial to identify potential matches and also to identify church records to confirm matches.
