Clarks of Suffolk
« on: Friday 27 February 15 01:24 GMT (UK) »
Starting with what I know, James Clark b. 1805-7 Great Bromley, Essex. I don't have a baptism (or marriage) but 1851 census his brother Abraham b.1818 is lodging with him and I have his baptism, son of Abraham and Mary. I have a marriage to Mary Watcham 1805 Ardleigh, Essex Abraham gives Y to Essex 1841 but Stoke, Suffolk 1851. Stoke in Suffolk ??  Stoke by Nayland ?, Stoke by Clare ? or even Stoke, suburb of Ipswich ?   I have a baptism that fits his age, Abraham Clark, 27th Aug 1780 Polstead son of Abraham and Mary. With so many Abraham Clarks around I despair at finding the right ones. James Clark has a son Abraham b.1839. Brother Abraham has a son Abraham b.1843

Thanks sue, has it happens I did have this. Where did you find it with witnesses ?   Elizabeth Gardiner nee Barker.. Strange case ...   From ancestry.com,she married John Alston Gardiner 2nd Oct 1818 and he was buried the same day. Elizabeth Gardiner had two sons , James b.1821 and John b.1825. Interesting but not really relevant to my Abraham Clark search

Think this is your man (per Suffolk Baptism Index):

Abraham Clark bp.10/3/1782 Stoke by Clare, Suffolk, son of Abraham and Elizabeth
siblings
Elizabeth Clark bp.24/10/1784
Isaac Clark bp.3/9/1786, bur.19/12/1787
Mary Clark bp.28/9/1788
Isaac Clark bp.7/11/1790, bur.7/11/1790
John Clark bp.5/6/1792
Isaac Clark bp.11/10/1795, bur.17/10/1795

Abraham Clark (bc.1753, bur.30/4/1817 Stoke by Clare) married Elizabeth Mais 1779 (per Boyds Index).   Think Elizabeth was bur.14/10/1795 - 3 sons named Isaac who all died, the last one baptised 11/10/1795, mother buried 3 days later, and then the child on 17/10/1795.

I think Abraham remarried in 1799 to a Hannah Purkis (again, per Boyds Index which only gives years. No status is given).
