Oh good. I empathize - I'm currently transcribing a 16C will and the writing is difficult enough even without the jargon!

Would you believe it!!! Ancestry have put lots of wills on their website, including the one of Thomas BOYER ::). If I had waited a bit I could have saved myself the princely sum of £3.30! ;D

We've had exactly the same happen with one of the wills we bought from the record office. However, £3.30 is not a lot when you think of the number of happy hours of entertainment provided by trying to transcribe them  ;D

Brie

BTW were your Loughborough Boyers brewers or maltsters?

Hi Brie,
my BOYERS were (at least at the marriage of Thomas & Lucy) were in the wool trade, he was a "Woolstapler". From my time at an electronics firm who made textile test equipment, I think that a Woolstapler checked the length of the wool fibres, which would have been a fairly responsible job.
After that time he was a "Gentleman". There were quite a few Clergymen in the family too. But I haven't seen any references to the beer trade.
Best regards
Keith
