Hi Scott

Would be good for you to confirm some details formally to let you work back with confidence. Gets trickier the further back you go and when you start searching for records pre 1855 and the start of official BMD registrations in Scotland.

Kay mentioned earlier the likely marriage of Ellen in 1858. The only place to view original images of Scottish BMDs post 1855 is the official pay to view site (costs are reasonable) www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk  Viewing this image would let you confirm the full names of father and mother for bride and groom. It would include father's occupation and whether father and mother were still alive at the time of the marriage (normally). Witnesses names and addresses etc also help.

I can see why you think Ellen's mother's maiden name may be Wood, https://familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&query=%2Bsurname%3Aalison~%20%2Bbirth_place%3Ascotland~%20%2Bbirth_year%3A1835-1880~%20%2Bfather_givenname%3Awilliam~%20%2Bmother_givenname%3Aelizabeth~%20%2Bmother_surname%3Awood~

Hello again, I've just been reading over the things that you've all said, if the Wright connection comes through Clementina Wright am I safe to believe that Clementina was possibly looking after the son of a brother or sister? And if there is a birth record for a Clementina Wright in Dundee in 1802 with the parents John Wright and Elizabeth Henderson, am I also safe to assume that this would of been David's grandparents? :)

Scott, you need to verify some key info along the way... Yep, everything is pointing to Clementina Wright, who shows as aunt in 1851 and her details from 1802 here (as mentioned by Kay earlier) https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XBZX-FD9

Other children to this couple (there may be more that don't show on records):

Robert 1796 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XBZJ-Y4Y
John 1799 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XBZF-3Y5
James 1801 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XBZJ-424

Would help you to confirm your David's parents' names from his marriage or death, both available to view via SP as images.

At some point all of us have to start viewing some hard data  ::) You can make assumptions for sure from what we are seeing, but we have all seen assumptions proved wrong once documents are obtained.

Monica  :)

In a good mood this morning (not coughing)and had unused credits so the marriage on 16 Jan 1858 at St Cyrus lists the couple  as
David Wright 22 Journeyman Baker Bachelor parents Robert Wright Sailor (deceased) and Mary (Maiden name Reid) deceased
Helen Alison  19 spinster parents William Alison Agricult Labourer and Betsy (maiden name Wood)
Both of the parish –Witnesses Mary Alison and James Filchet?

So it looks like the Robert Wright that Monica posted was the father https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XBZJ-Y4Y
The index on Anc lists of Robert Wright to May Reid on 22 Dec 1822 at Dundee,Angus,

I do wonder whether this is David and family in 1841 living at Peddies Square Dundee.   The parents disappear by 1851 and the youngest child was boarding in 1851.  However Robert Wright was not a sailor :-\

Robert Wright 40 Linen Worker
Mary Wright 40
Robert Wright 12 Rope Maker Ap
Thomas Wright 10
David Wright 6
Benjamin Wright 4

Last night I found a burial for Elisabeth Henderson in Logie cemetary in Dundee, she was buried by her husband John Wright and she was 50 years old. I calculated this back and it makes her date of birth 1773. I found a birth for an Elisabeth Henderson matching the date and she was born in Dundee to a James Henderson and a margaret Hill. Thank you for all your help
Scott :)

Yes, this fits very neatly, but you need to keep just a niggle of doubt in the back of your mind, because it is also possible that there was another Elizabeth Henderson whose birth is not in the records. (I made that mistake when I started out - assumed that because there was only one obvious candidate in the records, it must be the right person, and I spent some time following a line that, when I finally got a death certificate, turned out to be a totally unrelated one.)
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hello again,

Do you think that that's the case here, or is it just a word of warning?  :)
