Trying to find out about the Hum or Humm Family, particularly John and Sarah who were witnesses to the marriage of 4x Gt Grandfather.

'Banns of marriage between George Burt and Frances Bigsby were published 18th September 1768. The said George Burt single man of this parish and the said Frances Bigsby of this parish single woman were married in this church by banns this nineteenth day of September in the year one thousand seven hundred and sixty eight by me I. Sharpe, minister. This marriage was solemnized between us George Burt/ Frances Bigsby in the presence of Jn Hum/Sarah Hum'. The Marriage was at St James Church Bury St Edmunds. I believe George Burt may have been born in Mildenhall and there seem to be connections with Fornham St Martins, but I cant get any firm evidence about either. He farmed at Norton after his marriage.

The name Hum was used as a middle name of George and Frances' first son George Hum Burt 1770-1770 and also William Hum Burt 1779-1780.

It also appears 2 generations later with a son of my 2x Gt Grandfather John Humm Burt 1849-1870.
Any help or suggestions as to who the Hum/Humms were would be most welcome

Thanks to you both for that.
Family search has the name as Ham, but it could well be mis-transcribed. I think it is definitely a very strong candidate, especially as it is a BStEds marriage. Any help with his occupation or suggestions as to how I might find it?

There is this baptism from England & Wales, Non-Conformist and Non-Parochial Registers, 1567-1970.
I believe that the Mc bit is a mis transcription as everyone on the original has that before their name and they can't all be Scottish! It probably should just read Mr.

John Mc Hum
Event Type:   Baptism
Father:   Mc Hum
Baptism Date:   31 May 1731
Baptism Place:   Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England
Denomination:   Presbyterian

Do you have access to FindMyPast - several mentions of a John Hum under "Newspapers" (specifically the Ipswich Journal) between 1750 and 1799.

Also available via British Newspaper Archive (BNA) - a subscription site.

I have found a register of apprentices indentures. It says:
April 27 1767 John Hum. Linen Weaver. Samuel Browning. 7 Yrs
April 27 1767 Danl Hum. Woolman & Yarn maker. Thos Harmer. 7 Yrs
I would imagine they were brothers, so any help in finding father of Daniel and John Hum would be very helpful.
