Bathe-Lydiard Tregoze
« on: Monday 02 March 15 11:41 GMT (UK) »
Would anyone be able to check this for me?

Findmypast has a baptism for Richard Bathe 20 January 1743 at Lydiard Tregoze.

His parents George Bathe and Mary Islis/Isles married 11 December 1744 at Lydiard Tregoze.

I am wondering if 1743 should be 1745 ? as there is no indication that Richard was illigitimate

Kim :)

Hi Kim,

Yes - you are correct - it should read 1744/5 per the transcripts from the Wilts FHS on
CD - CMB 29

However, there is a problem in that there is no marriage in LT in 1744 for George Bathe. Interestingly, there is a marriage of a Mary Iles to a John Shildon 10-5-1744.
I couldn't find george Bathe - Mary Iles in the Wilts (North)  Marriage Index.

Hi Alan

Thank you for checking the baptism.

The marriage {Bath} is from the Wilts MBL {also on findmypast but taken  from the MBL }

It gives the place of the marriage as Lydiard Tregoze/Purton

The groom is a lab of Lydiard Millicent and the bride of Lydiard Tregoze

After Richard the next baptism I have found is for in 1750=a gap of 5 years :-\

Hi Kim,

I see in the Wilts MLB CD, the marriage licence entry you refer to as Lydiard Tregoze/Purton.

It doesn’t appear in the LT transcripts as mentioned earlier, nor does it appear in the Wilts (North)  Marriage CD
for either LT or Purton.

I made enquiries with the WiltsFHS a few months ago regarding the Purton records and their reply was that transcription was currently taking place but would unlikely be ready to be issued on a CD for approx 18 months.

I have in my wife’s tree several Bath/Bathe’s going back to the 1600s,  many of them from Purton and the records were extracted from either FamilySearch or Eng & Wales Christening Records/Parish records I found on And..y.

I think this is a case of either writing to the Wilts FHS  or the Wilts Records Office to see if they can confirm or otherwise the record you found on FindMyPast.

As you say there is a gap between Richard & Williams baptisms - did they move to another parish in the meantime or just not have any children. The lack of burials in LT  during this time would indicate they went to another parish as I can’t find an entry for George although there is a Mary buried in 1783 -  no other details listed.

Hi Alan

Thank you for your reply-I will do as you suggest and see if the Wilts OPC can help although there is no one doing the Lydiards at present

I remember we had some earlier contact re the Bathes' :)

Hi Kim,

I think on reflection that perhaps the Wilts RO may be the best way to go quoting what FindMyPast are
showing,  but WFHS are not.

I would be interested to know the outcome as I have a Bathe generation I can't prove.
