"Hutman's Hospital" Newcastle upon Tyne 1848?
« on: Monday 02 March 15 12:29 GMT (UK) »
Hello all.

I have a baptism: Charles GRAY son of Charles and Elizabeth, bapt. 28th December 1848 at All Saints' Newcastle.

On the digitised Bishop's Transcripts (FamilySearch; fifth entry down on the right-hand page) the Abode is given as "Hutman's Hospital".

At least that's what I can read, and it's what has been transcribed into FreeREG as well.

Does anyone know what and where Hutman's Hospital might have been?

Many thanks,

Paul

It says ' Keelman's Hospital'.

Lots of information when you google it  :)

Ach!

Of course it's "Keelman" not Hutman. Bleedin' obvious now you've pointed that out. And the father was a waterman on the Tyne (and lived on Sandgate!), so it makes perfect sense.

Thank you for solving that one in record time.

Paul

Yes, but I am glad it wasn't me who was transcribing it, the writing is dire :-)
