« on: Monday 02 March 15 18:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi could anyone please see if they can find the christening of
Mary Heywood dob 10-3-1874  Matt Kiln Sandbach,
and a George Heywood dob 13-3-1881 Stockport Cheshire.
 Parents Harriet and Thomas.
I have found there brother William but not been able to find there's.

I notice that Mary is referred to as Polly on the 1881 census and surname as Haywood.  George is 1mth old so born 1881 - not 1880

Also - Thomas is not shown as Haywood but as Thorley - hard to work out but definitely not Haywood

Harriet is specifically shown as Haywood.  Other entries for husband and wife do not show the wife's surname - just a ditto so they were presumably not married

Hi

I would go along with Carole's theory ~ the couple were not married.  Georges birth record is on CheshireBMD , it gives his surname as HEYWOOD and mothers maiden name as HEYWOOD.Born Stockport.

Neither the 1881/1891/1901 has a son William.  1891 shows John Thomas 5 Frank 2  Joseph 1

No additional children 1901 - did William die in infancy?

in 1891/1901 All are shown as Thorley and Cheshire BMD shows Joseph as Thorley -mmn Haywood

To avoid repetition there have been other similar posts made about this family. :)

Thank you all for looking. :)
So maybe they didn't get christened then.

There is some name changing from Heywood to Thorley very confusing at times ???
Harriet (booth) first married Thomas Heywood 1867 Sandbach,
but didn't marry Thomas Thorley until 1894 Stockport, by then they had 3 other children.

I have Mary and George's birth cert's
On Mary's her father is Thomas Heywood
but on George's it doesn't have a fathers name,  mother is Harriet Heywood.
(confusion now who George's father is)

On both of George's  marriage cert's he has his father as Thomas Heywood (salt boiler)
where as Mary's marriage cert she is Mary Thorley and her father is Thomas Thorley (shoemaker)

I have got William in 1881 census living with Harriet's sister Mary Ann and her husband William,

it's not known at what stage she took up with Thorley.

Was Harriet's first husband still alive when George was conceived?

If not - then on the balance of probability his father was Thorley

In 1871 there is no sign of Thomas Haywood and Harriet is in lodgings shown as married.  She is shown as a lodger but the family are Booth - her maiden name

Son William aged 1 is with her
