Andrew Downie BLACK - Help needed
« on: Monday 02 March 15 21:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone

I'm hoping to finish another part of my family tree.

My Grandmothers sister was Margaret Wilson Black (b1928 - d1949) and she married Andrew Downie Black (b1924 - d1992) He was born in Blantyre, Lanarkshire and died and is buried in Cowdenbeath Fife. Margaret commited suicide by putting her head in a gas oven. I have her death certificate. I am unable to find out anything about her husband Andrew. I know they had a child Marie - who may or may not still be alive however she married and took the surname JONES. I've tried to research but keep drawing total blanks. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Paul

Hi

Sorry to be negative but...........

RootsChat is meant for finding ancestors, rather than living relatives.
Personal details of any people known or thought to be living will be removed, in accordance with RootsChat policy, to avoid spamming and other abuses. So people here will be able to give you general tips and hints how to proceed, but not any concrete details.

Might these topics help  ???

Sorry Sandra

My fault for not being clearer.

I'm looking for information on Andrews ancestors. I was simply providing as much information as I had to help if anyone was able to support me.

I was about to add the same comments as Sandra, so thank you for clarifying.

Likely you would need to order the 1948 marriage to confirm his parents. Given Margaret's age, likely you will also need to order his birth cert if needed.

You mention a death death for Andrew in 1992. His death cert would give details if he remarried. Also the informant to the death might also hold clues.

You are very recent here Paul. Unless someone has this group in their family, or can do these searches for you at one of the main genealogy centres whilst they are there, this info is hard to come by online...as I am sure you have found in the past already.

There is an anc tree which seems to have a info on Margaret Wilson Strachan and the Strachan line back to early 1800's but unfortunately nothing on the Andrew Downie Black line.

Your only option as far as I can see is to order a copy of his birth certificate, listed as you say in 1924.
