Lyons Lovett Family
« on: Tuesday 03 March 15 09:19 GMT (UK) »
Just researching the Lovett family from Ireland-one branch, the Reverend George James Hall Lovett, settled in England & was minister in Chorlton-cum Hardy, dying in 1931. His siblings, were William Alexander Lyons Lovett & Irvin Adam Samuel Lovett. William settled in North West England, and had one son Frederick Lyons Lovett who died in 1927. I don't know what happened to Irvin.

Then I find these graves in Georgia and wonder if they are connected to this ancestry.

Alma Joyce Lyons Lovett Birth: Jan. 8, 1938. Death: Nov. 26, 1983. Burial: Floral Hills Memory Gardens Tucker DeKalb County Georgia, USA.
Gloverine Lyons Lovett Byrd, Birth: Aug. 8, 1920. Death: Dec. 1, 2006. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery Griffin Spalding County Georgia, USA Plot: Section E; Block 4.

Thanks for that, yes the Brodribb connection comes from the first husband of Frederick Lyons Lovett's mother Helen Lovett, formerly Carr, who married Francis Benjamin Brodribb, a surgeon on 4th October 1883. Between them they had 3 children, Helen, William & Francis, then her husband died 17 November 1893, source (probate record), and then she married another surgeon/physician William Alexander John Lyons Lovett on 1 June 1897 at St Anne's On Sea, Lancashire, and they both settled down to live in Colne Lancashire, where together they had Frederick Lyons Lovett.

The Carr family lived at Langroyd Hall, Colne, Lancashire.

All the Lovett children are descended from a William Lovett & a Jane Hall, hence the intertwined surnames as second & third forenames. William Lovett was a Methodist Minister, not sure if he was Primitive or Wesleyan yet,but records seem to point to him being Wesleyan.

William Lovett married Jane Hall, at Donagh, Monaghan on 23 April 1860, she was the daughter of a Matthew Hall, but details here a bit sketchy. Just wondering what happened to Irvin Lovett and whether they are all connected with those persons buried in Georgia, the names seem to be from the right family.

For the people in Georgia that you found, findagrave.com indicates that Lyons was a maiden name for both.  I suspect it's just a coincidence.

Hi Tom,
For what it's worth
I have Irwin Lovett brother to my gggf George.
Irwin b c 1805-10 died "of a fever" while serving in British Army in 1829.
George also had a brother Adam bc 1805-10, also served with george and irwin and discharged to pension in early 1840's- he signed up to go to Canada and died there in 1850's.
Another brother James was in the USA.
George was pensioned off in the late 1830's and subsequently emigrated to NZ.

The family was from Co Cavan, George and Adam were born at Drumlane and the family were living in killeshandra parish in 1841.
There was a brother William- younger than George but listed as the head of the household and a brother Charles. Their father was James Lovett and their mother Mary Ann (Irwin).

I have no other connection to your family other that that possibly coincidental name. William (again bc 1805-10 ish) was a farmer not a minister. He was still there in the 1860's for the Griffiths valuation. There were other Lovett families in the Belturbet area in later years so it is possible there was some connection.

Cheers
Jane
