1820s castlebar baptism lookup please
« on: Tuesday 03 March 15 09:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi there to all reading, ive hit a brick wall regarding my fourth great grandparents, they was david stevens/stephens seen both versions of this name for him and Julia McHale, the first I see of them is the baptism of my third great grandmother mary in 1849 in Wolverhampton, the census's say they was both born in Ireland and the 1861 census they are both born in castlebar.

they seem to have ages varying from 1823-1831 for david and 1825-1831 for Julia McHale, please can somebody please see if you can find a baptism of ethier of these in castlebar for the time periods please?

much appreciated thankyou

Looks like you are out of luck as the Castlebar baptisms that are available only start in 1838.

that is typical lol, such a shame was there any other church prior to this or is that when the records began/survived from for the whole town? is there a marriage for david stevens and Julia McHale in castle bar around 1845-49? I cant find them to marry in England, they was in Wolverhampton England with I presume their first child mary in 1849

A possibility perhaps - Baptism record for John Casey 14 Apr 1842 in Balla R.C parish (adjoining Castlebar) parents Michael Casey Ann Surdival sponsors Patrick Cunnane Bridget Surdival. Only baptism for John Casey with father Michael for that time period.
No record found for Stevens McHale  marriage.

That is brilliant thankyou, it seems to fit, in his marriage certificate in 1866 wolverhamptn he gives his age as 22 father Michael a farm labourer-deceased, can I ask a big favour as to is there any more children between this Michael and ann? Hopefully this can help abit.

Im only guessing my john may have came from castlebar as that's where his wifes parents came from, kind regards

in 1881 census in Wolverhampton theres a Lawrence casey born mid 1840s states ballanderrin as birthplace, and in his marriage he gives father as Michael?

could this be Ballaghaderreen as that seems to be close to castlebar?

Three other children of Michael Casey and Ann Surdival all in Balla R.C parish
No Lawrence showing.
Patrick 03 May 1844 address Rusllahan
Michael 13 Aug 1846 address Rushaha
Bridget 01 Jan 1847 address R Lahan
also address given on John's baptism R Lahan
Looked up townland and think it is possibly Roslahan today.

Thanks for the help I appreciate that, just trying to fix it all together, there is a Michael and a Patrick living in Wolverhampton giving about the same age as those baptisms, many thanks
