James Martin Marriage

I have been looking for details of James Martin born 1856 in Stoke on Trent.

In the 1871 census he is still living with his parents Charles and Mary Martin

In the 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 I have found a James Martin born Stoke, Staffordshire living at Horwich, Lancashire with a wife named Elizabeth.  In the 1911 census they have been married 34 years.

I have found a marriage for a James Martin marrying an Elizabeth Houghton registered Newcastle Under Lyme, Staffordshire.  I have been trying to find out if this is the same James Martin whose father is Charles Martin.

 I would have thought  it  was the  same man ,   their first child  Annie  was born Crewe  in 1877,    Newcastle under Lyme  is not that far from Crewe   or from where they lived in 1881  ( Monks Coppenhall )  Elizabeth    was  from Crewe  also .

The marriage cert will help you - if his father is named as Charles and with the right sort of occupation to match "your" Charles then it looks as if you are on the right line.
If his father is something different, then looks like you can rule out this marriage and start looking again, without always wondering if that was the right one.
