Robert Greig?
« on: Tuesday 03 March 15 21:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

Am looking for any information on Robert Greig born about 1751 in Redcastle, Inverkeilor, Angus.
He was apparently married to Ann ? 26 April 1777 in Inverkeilor and they had at least 8 children one of whom was Martha Greig born 11 July 1792 in Inverkeilor.

Hoping someone may know his parents names and more detail on his wife Ann?

Many thanks
Jennifer

Hi Trish,
Thank you for that clarification.  I did notice the names being the same but thought it was an error. Could that mean that they were related or just coincidence??

Cheers
Jen

Hi I have a Robert Greig born 1791 in Inverkeillor, married Elizabeth Scrimgeour. I haven't gone any earlier than him, but may be a son.

These are some of the children showing for Robert and Ann on Family search https://familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&query=%2Bsurname%3Agreig~%20%2Bbirth_place%3Aangus~%20%2Bfather_givenname%3Arobert~%20%2Bmother_givenname%3Aann~%20%2Bmother_surname%3Agreig~

There may be more. The only place to check further for actual records is www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk who hold the original index and images.

There is a Robert born 1784 showing for Robert and Ann, antiquesam. Could be the one you mention. Or maybe, the 1784 Robert died young and name re-used. What else do you have for him?

Hi Monica. I'm afraid I'm away from home until tomorrow and am relying on my tree on Ancestry android. RG comes into my tree by marriage to a Scrimgeour so I didn't get round to his parentage. I will dig deeper when I get home. I just recognised the name while browsing the forum.

Having looked at my Robert Greig I gave his birth as 1791 by counting back from the 1861 census, but counting back from the 1851 census it puts him as born in 1786, which makes me think he is the 1784 born to Robert and Ann Greig.

If your Robert was alive at the time of the 1861 census, did he die in Scotland? If so, hopefully his parents' names would be included on his death cert, if know to the informant.

Hi Monica.
Robert Greig (farmer), Married to Elspet Scrimgeour, died 24th March 1876 aged 92. Father- Robert Greig. Mother Ann Greig (cousins).
That explains why they both shared a surname. So Globatrol I have one of their children.
