Gertrude Ellen Wyatt
« on: Wednesday 04 March 15 14:01 GMT (UK) »
I have asked this question before a few years ago and had no luck but now wonder with more information on line if I will be lucky this time.  Gertrude Ellen Wyatt is my great grandmother and I have come to a full stop on that side of my tree.  Here are her details:-
Gertrude Ellen Wyatt,  is  her name on my grandfather's  birth certificate. That is her name on her marriage certificate in 1890. In 1891  it shows her as 20 living at 64 Wellington Street, Canton Cardiff. Ernest Albert George Taylor was 21 and a china dealer and lived at 216 Cowbridge Road.  In 1891 she is shown as Ellen Taylor from Cosheston, Somerset, England and they were living at 216 Cowbridge Road.  In 1901 again she is Ellen and they lived at 38 Nesta Place in Canton, my grandfather  is also in the census.  She is shown as being born in Bagborough Somerset.  In 1911 she is still Ellen and from Somerset, they were living in 37 Lionel Street, Cardiff.  In 1928 age 59 she died and her gravestone says Ellen Taylor.  I would love to find her family tree but up to now I have been unsuccessful.  Drawn a blank in the Cothelston Census and Bagborough (West Bagborough) I have tried the Taunton records and they cant find her either.  Its a pity because we have all the other links to our family.
If she was born in 1870 she should be somewhere on the 1871 and 1881 census but I have drawn a blank
I hope someone can help
Regards

Not the right surname but concentrating on birthplace there are a couple of Ellen's on the 1871 census.

Ellen Prile age 1 born West Bagborough dau of John and Ann

Ellen Stuckey 6 months old born West Bagborough dau of William and Sarah
She is with grandparents in 1881

but if yours didn't know her father those are unlikely options  :-\

I take it she was a spinster when she married and not a (very) young widow.

Good idea to check out that address.  I suspect she was lodging with unrelated people but would be interesting to find out who lived there just in case another Wyatt pops up!

Mary daughter 21

Actually she was living at 64 Wellington Street at the time of her marriage in 1890 and I have looked up the 1871, 1881 and 1891 census and the family living there are James Watts who was born in 1829 in West Down Devon, his wife and family were born in Cardiff. Seems strange the name is Watts and hers was Wyatt.  Also their children were William, (my grandfather's name) George (my father's name) and John and Alfred which were also family names.  I am wondering if there is a connection now.  Her name is not at that address in 1881.  She is a complete mystery, and she was a spinster on her marriage certificate. Its a pity she got married in 1890, another year and she would have been on the 1891 census for wellington Street.
