Lott's Yard in Scarborough, 1861
« on: Friday 06 March 15 16:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

Bit of an unusual request this one.
I am almost 100% certain that my targets are at 7 Lott's Yard in Scarborough in the 1861 census, but I can't pick them up.
I'd happily trawl the census images in case the names have been mistranscribed, but I can't even begin as I'm not sure where Lott's Yard was and Scarborough was/is a large area to cover.

The family in question is William and Jane Chapman.
He was born c1810 in Scalby, Scarborough and was an ag lab.
Jane was born c1815 in Seamer.
Children are Mary Ann (b. 1835 Seamer), Charles (b. 1837 Scarborough), John (b. 1839 Seamer/Scarborough) and Mark (b. 1842 Scarborough).

I know they must be there as they are in 1841, 1851 (although not William) and again in 1871.

Thanks in advance,

MT ;)

Smashing! Thanks again, Kay.
Thanks for the details too. ;)
I'm willing to bet that St Thomas Street encompassed Lott's Yard.

Rgds,

I've just checked the next page on the registers. You're right - it does cover Lott's Yard.
And ... they count backwards from 1 Lott's Yard there, so if you continue the count it brings you back to the previous page ... and William Chapman's address is 27 St Thomas Street ... but it also matches with ...

7 Lott's Yard!!
BINGO!
