Using Beg's list and the cemetery database this is how it comes out

BERRY, CHARLES Plot: ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 51
BIRCH, MARY ANN Plot :ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 51

ANDERSON, JOHN Plot :ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 52
MCCOLL, THOMAS Plot :ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 52

COCKERTON, GEORGE  Plot :  ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 53
KNEE, JNO Plot  ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 53

WHITFIELD, JOHN Plot :ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 54

TUCK, MARY ALICE Plot :ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 55
PARSONS, RICHARD JAMES  Plot:ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 55A
WOODWARD, JAMES Plot : ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 55A
TILBY, JAMES Plot :ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 55B

KING, ROBERT Plot :ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 56

WALKINGSHAW, IVEY Plot :ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 56A

Maybe the clue to this in the Walkingshaw burial where her occupation is given as destitute

Edited

On Google maps that row and 2/3rds of the next row has only a handful of headstones which may indicate those graves were for paupers

Cheers Janette

Hello Beg and Janette,

Thank you for all your efforts.   I am so grateful.

Perhaps the enquiries for Richard PARSONS have now been exhausted and I feel there is sufficient detail to complete at least a pen portrait for him.  Just one doubt where the second christian name "JAMES" came from??

For the moment,

Tony

Minniehaha,

I am not quite sure what you mean......if the death was registered at Christchurch are you saying it is the wrong person?

Hi Tony,

I don't know whether or not the Christchurch registration means it is the incorrect Mary Parsons. Just throwing a fact about the 1869 death into the mix; for further investigation maybe?

[I have not found her on the Christchurch City Council (cemeteries) website but she may have been buried further afield perhaps?]

Hi Tony  ...

Random thought re James as second name, he may have become Catholic before marrying in St Patrick's Cathedral and picked it up as a confirmation name  :-\ .. not obliged to use it of course and most don't but possibility he decided to as no other 2nd name...

Hello mare,

Hope you are keeping well.

I had more or less finished researching Richard (James) PARSONS and was going to mark it "TOPIC COMPLETED".........but Minniehaha threw a spanner in the works with her reference to Mary's death being registered in Canterbury.   Then I thought again, probably she left him anyway, as he appeared to be a wife-beater (see PapersPast), although Canterbury is a fair distance from Auckland, or was in those days, except I have no way of finding out if that is what she actually did??!!

For now,

Tony
