Mary Boyton
« on: Saturday 07 March 15 00:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Would anybody have any information on my 3rd great grandmother Mary Boyton born 1816 Brentwood, Essex and died 1887 Tasmania, Australia. I have a bit of Australian information but none in England and of her parents and siblings.
Thank you
Stephen

There's no Mary Boyton baptised in Brentwood in or around 1816.
Who did she marry and who were her children, so we could cross reference with census records?
When did she travel to Australia?
Jamiesons, Martins and McGonigals of Coleraine, Londonderry
and
Cullens, Grahams and Challenors of Dublin county and city.

Hi,
I did find a Mary Boyton in the 1841 Census England.
Born in Walthamstow Essex, 1816c. Was this her married name.
She is in the 1851 as been with a Samuel Boyton, a son called William and a nephew called Joseph.
Let me know please before I search for more.
Thanks
Maggsie

1841 only gives Yes or no  to signify if they were born in the county(not town) they were living in
Ages of adults 15+ years are rounded down to the nearest 5 years - no relationships are given in this census
There are a few Mary Boytons in Essex of approx correct age

There is a tree on A******y which has a Mary Boyton who married William Winter in 1839 -she died Tasmania - and seems to be your" Mary "

She gives her p.o.b. as Ilford Essex - her children were born Brentwood

1841
Hamlet of Brentwood S Weald Essex
William Winter 25 Plate Layer No
Mary 20 Y
Emily 5 or 9 could be months?? Y
Seth Winter 15 Plate layer No
HO107 324 8 12 18 2

1851
Townsend St Southwark Surrey
William Winter Head M 39 Plate Layer Gambelton Yorkshire
Mary wife M 37 Ilford Essex
Emily daughter 10 Brentwood Essex
Avis? Ann daughter 8  Brentwood
Walter son 6 Brentwood
CDeborah daughter 4 Boxhill? Sussex
Joshua son 1 Brentwood essex
Samuel Winter brother S 44 shoemaker Gambelton Yorks
HO107 1503 468 13

These look like the Banns for their marriage
St John Hackney Middlesex
8 Sept 1830
15 Sept 1839
22 Sept 1829
William Winter bachelor of the parish
Mary Boyton spinster of the parish

"of the parish" only means they were living there when the Banns were read - not necessarily they were born there

cannot find the marriage entry in parish registers
The marriage reg is
Dec qtr 1839
reg district Hackney
on same page
Mary Boyton
William Winter
ref 3 85

the marriage certificte can be ordered from GRO costs less than £10 and would give bride & grooms fathers and their occupations (unless they were illegit ) Witnesses sometimes are family too

This isn't the marriage -it is the date the 3rd set of Banns were read

I cannot find the marriage in parish registers -but it must have taken place as it is in the Marriage registers Dec qtr 1839 so probably took place early October
