Looks like to me that she was born in 1878 in that baptism entry
I've found an entry in 1891 census for her living with her mother and siblings in Deptford 1891 RG12 495 57 55

How old was she when she married ?
I have a feeling in my bones that the Emily in the baptism isn't 'your' Emily.

Good Oz morning folk,

sorry I couldn't stay awake any longer last night. My old eyes kept closing. What a web this is becoming.

1. I really thought the 2nd and 4th digits in the Christening were quite different and that the 4th one was a bad "0" not an "8". The 1st "8" looks like an"S" (which is the start of an "8". But the 2nd one (to me) didn't appear to have the same stroke of pen as the 2nd digit.

2. I now have the Transcript of Emily Isenhood's (nee Harrogan) Headstone and I produce the text.

First name(s)   Emily
Last name           Isenhood
Age                   74
Denomination   Anglican
Birth year      1874
Birth date     30/05/1874 00:00:00
Death year           1947
Death date           30 May 1947
Inscription           our mother
Cemetery       Rookwood Cemetery
City                   Sydney
State             New South Wales
Country        Australia
Plot              Section 8 ROW 7
Plot number   722,723
Size              2
Record set     Rookwood Cemetery
Category       Birth, Marriage, Death & Parish Records
Subcategory   Deaths & burials
Collections from   Australasia

I need a bigger can for the worms. How I wish I were in England ATM. It's a mess doing this from Oz. Did I mention that Emily is the LAST of her generation of ancestors I need to nail down (no pun intended). Why is it always "the last".

Which records to believe: 1870, 1874, 1878 and now it has thrown up that her parents could/should have been William and Emily.

Two things for you "grandarog" and one for "grouse":
1. Emily married in 1895 (no ages on the record), so she could have been 17, 21 or 25. If she was 17, then she would have been 77 when she died. Not 73 as the Cemetery records show. Sheesh...

2. My other English connection: John Henry Harris born in Queen Charlton, Somerset in 1835. He married Mercy Ann Chard in 1855 in Keynsham, Somerset. They emigrated from Port of Plymouth in Dec 1856 to Melbourne Victoria arrived April 1857. Travelled to Sydney and then settled in Mudgee, NSW.

I have to do some house-keeping and turn a few things upside down. I'll get back. Thank you all, it is fantastic being on the receiving end for a change. You're a "good mob".

Al

To continue, I now have Emily's Death Certificate and it verifies the date of death as 30/05/1947.
Her age - 74. Which makes her birth year 1874 - but where is it hiding.

At least I can dispense with James and the "other" Emily now.

Thanks,
Al

Now, if I get my maths right, Emily was born in 1873. And to my astonishment she was born in Oz, of Irish parents, in Hamilton NSW (and 10 other siblings). Now I have to tell approximately 7 different Family Trees (who think she came from England). It was one of these Trees that got me on the merry-go-round. Thank you all and I declare this post closed.
