Hello everyone.. got a bit of a hmmm here...

Maria Elizabeth Smith..(b 1875 Bilston ) is a great aunt of Mine... she married a Robert Henry Davies,, that much I know is true for they later live w the main smith... family in one census...

but...

Her marriage details show her as Maria Elizabeth "Evans" Smith,,,

any idea why this could be? for as far as I can see.. she wasnt previously married (the only reason i could think of for the additional name)

I canot find a birth on freebmd for Maria Elizabeth smith in Staffordshire, but there is a birth for a Maria Elizabeth Evans in Wolverhampton district which covers Bilston, in March quarter 1875

I have a suspicion Maria was born prior to John and Selina marrying (if they did, haven;t found one yet) and thus was an evans who adopted the surname Smith. John appears to be in Dudley in 1881, married to a Mary and no daughter Maria.

There's a Maria Elizabeth Evans born in the Wolverhampton region in 1875 - can;t see a Maria Elizabeth Smith in the right place and time.

there is also this from Bilston 1871, which could be the mother

I just found them - but if this is them, where are they in 1881? There's only one John Smith b Netherton, Worcestershire of that sort of age coming up:

This is john and his fam in 1881... I know this is right cos of the names and the fact hwes listed as a blast furnace engineer... (he appears on his sons wedding cert as the same)
