Information about Nuns
« on: Sunday 08 March 15 17:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have two nuns in my family tree and I would love to find out more about them.

Cecelia Jackson (born 1863 in Portsmouth) and Sarah Brindley (born 1874 in Woolwich) were aunt and niece and in 1901 were both nuns in an orphanage in Warwick (now the Convent of our lady in Wood Street, Southam).

Cecelia was still there in 1911, but no sign of Sarah - I am also unable to locate a record of death for either of them.

I did contact the Catholic FHS (on advise from another rootschatter) some years ago, but unfortunately there were unable to help.

I also wrote directly to the convent, but unfortunately didn't receive a reply.

I was wondering whether there was such a thing as an 'Index of Nuns'?

Any advise or information would be very much appreciated.

Kind Regards

Hi JJ

Many thanks for your response.

Looks like the second one is the one I've been looking for! Thank goodness for a second pair of eyes!

HI,
This website has an article about the orphanage
www.warwickcourier.co.uk/new/nostalgia/demolition-of-a-grand-building
In it the order of nuns is called Sisters of the Poor Child Jesus.
They are listed in
www.birminghamdiocese.org.uk
where there is a Religious Orders Directory
Good luck
