William Phelan/Whelan

Looking for WW1 records for William Phelan or Whelan, born 1889 in County Kilkenny. His parents were Mary and Thomas and he also had a brother James. He was living in the Glasgow area before the war, where he was an engineer. He died about 1977. Would be grateful for any help

The WWI board on the Armed Forces forum would be the best place for this.

British Army Records are on Ancestry but a lot of them were destroyed during WWII bombings.

Is this his family in Kilkenny on the
1901 census and 1911 census?
If so he was baptised on July 03 1890 and his mother's maiden name was WALSH for reference

Findmypast .ie has attestation papers for a William Phelan from Ballyragget Kilkenny date 6 Feb 1917 age 27. Discharge from the Royal Artillery 11 Mar 1919 - When did he move to Glasgow as his address on the discharge papers is C/O The Hotel Ballyragget Kilkenny so it may not be the correct person.

Hi myluck! This is him but as you can see both him and his brother James were gone in 1911. We have gotten some information from the Scottish people site but have been unable to get military records for either brother
