Andrew BROWN and Agnes Bonar 1792/3 Clackmannan
« on: Tuesday 10 March 15 15:53 GMT (UK) »
 :) :) :)
I am looking for my BROWN ancestors.
I have come to a halt with

Andrew Brown born c 1792-1851 in Clackmannan.

Does anyone have information about Andrew Brown's parents?

His children were all born in Fife: Lochgelly, Lumphinnans, Cowdenbeath areas.

His son was David Frew Brown born 1834 (married to Ann Shepherd)
His son was John Brown born 1862 (married to Isabella Dewar)
His son was John Brown born 1891 (married to Mary McCartney)

Any information would be very helpful
Thank you

Does the birthplace come from a census? Birth year - is 1851 a typo?  Do you have the names of any other children of Andrew? A list in birth order could be useful.

Hi Kenbro,

This doesn't answer your question regarding Andrew's parents but SP have a death record for Andrew  Brown in June 1839 Clackmannan, Clackmannanshire; Agnes and the children's place of residence in 1841. Don't expect too much information from it, but if you're lucky it may give his age to better establish his birth year.

Thanks very much for the info.
I had narrowed his death down to before 1841 so 1839 looks correct.
I'll look at SP and see what I find.
Thanks again.

Hi Sprinkles
I am still looking for my extended Brown family. With not much luck. If Andrew Brown was born in Fife, he may not have been, there are a number of possible parents for him. His death certificate gives no more new information. Died 1839 in Clackmannanshire. Age not given or parents names. Using the tradition of Scottish naming patterns his father may have been Robert or David and his mother may have been Agnes or Mary. Still searching.

Hi Kemro

Remember that official Statutory registration only started in Scotland from 1855. At best what you have found from 1839 is death/burial entry in the old Parish Registers. These are often no more that a one liner  :-\

Have you considered this entry for Andrew? www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYKV-MJL

Did Agnes also go by the variant of Ann? Her death in 1881 in Ballingray, Fife:

Ann Brown/Bonnar, age 89. Mother's maiden name LOGAN. Ref 408/ 7.

Guessing this has been viewed? What were Agnes's parents' names?
