In 1851 Emma  Holt is  in the Hospital, she is a servant, but  she is not down as a patient  and neither is anyone else.
Could she have been working there or was she ill ?

Emma Holt Age:18 b Birmingham

Looking at those on pages either side who are also listed as Hospital I would think she is a patient. I can't see any mention of nursing staff.

I have just found further on where in the margin it says Hospital Servants then Hospital Nurses - groom beat me to finding that  ;D

Hi - I think she was a patient. If you look at the image where she is listed , under where the address is it says "Hospital continued" - it looks as if the patients have been listed in groups, possibly wards. If you then click on through the pages it then says "Hospital continued Servants" and then a bit further on it says "Hospital continued nurses" and finally "Hospital continued Officers"

The General faired better than most. Although built over half a century earlier it did have during it's time many eminent physicians & surgeons working there.
Unfortunately nursing was considered a lowly occupation at this time but looking at the nurses there were a lot of young(ish) women taking up the positions so you can say that standards were quite good.
