Ida McNeil
« on: Wednesday 11 March 15 05:52 GMT (UK) »
Ida McNeil was my great aunt and my grandmother, Mona Charlotte McNeil's sister. Her father is Frank James McNeil and she is mentioned in the 1911 Census in Hull, when she is 15. I have tried to find her in another census and I was unsuccessful I have tried to find her death certificate unsuccessfully.

I wondered if anyone could give me any clues about her?

I want to find out what I can about this side of my family.
Thank you,
Liz

Is Ida actually Vera Longman McNeil badly transcribed (and written in the census!!)  with this being the family in 1901 - I can't see a birth for Ida

Frank J Mc Neil    35
Ada Mc Neil 30
Lillian Mc Neil 10
Lova L Mc Neil 5  (Nora?)
Laurence F Mc Neil 4
Mona C Mc Neil    1

Birth Vera Longman McNeil   Sept Qtr 1895 Hull 9d 289

Thank you for looking and replying to me.

In the 1911 Census Ida is listed. I know Vera, I remember her when I was a child, but I had no knowledge of Ida until I saw the 1911 Census. My grandmother never mentioned Ida which I think is odd. In 1911, she is listed as a Clerk. I have found Ida's birth date, but she disappears after that.

Hi Kay,

I have gone back, and now agree with you, that Ida is Vera because she 1 year older than Laurence. The transcript of 1911 was wrong, it should have been Vera, not Ida.

Thank you so much for spotting that. I've taken Ida off my family tree! Sorry for the confusion.

Liz :)

Great - I think she is transcribed differently on different sites,  but the writing is really not easy to decipher. :)

A quick search and Vera Longman McNeil married Albert Henry Gillgrass at St Judes Church Hull 1919.

Vera's mums maiden name was Ada Longman.

Yes thanks Kay for the trouble you've gone to. It's just like a jigsaw puzzle and when the writing isn't clear there are problems. I'll do some more work on it tomorrow.

Thanks again,

Liz :D
