Baptisms 1770s, Cheam - Does anyone have access to them?
« on: Wednesday 11 March 15 18:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

My 4x gt grandfather Daniel Hussey (1778/79-1838) was according to his Army Service Record born in the parish of Cheam in Surrey. Unfortunately, the baptism records for Cheam, do not seem to be readily available within the usual sources, ie Familysearch, Ancestry, FindMyPast etc. I am therefore constantly & frustratingly turning up a blank!

Does anyone have access to these & if so can you help with Daniel's birth/baptism?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David

Hi Barryd,

Many thanks for your reply, very much appreciated.

Thanks for the familysearch detail, unfortunately, when I have searched on familysearch for the baptism, I have turned up nothing!

Presumably to look at any of those that you have listed, I would need to go to one of their family history centres? Would I be correct on this?

Kind regards

David

Hi ShaunJ,

Many thanks for that, much appreciated. Certainly do seem to be some useful resources as you say! I shall certainly investigate those.

Thanks again.

Kind regards

Normally familysearch.org states where the original records are are housed. Not so on this one. Perhaps the Cheam Parish would know? Otherwise the films can be ordered from Salt Lake City to be sent to your local Family Search Centre. But if your person has not been found on the IGI doubt he will be found searching through the film. He is on ancestry.com but with no information on his birth place.

The answer possibly lies in his name and he may be of Irish heritage and not baptized in the CofE.

Cheam (and other parishes) baptisms 1538 -1841 have been published on CD by West Surrey FHS. I have a copy and there are no Husseys at all and no Daniels around 1778.

It might be worth checking the baptism registers of St Nicholas in nearby Sutton. There is a burial there of a 6 year old Richard Hussey of Lower Cheam in 1793.
