 :-\ See what you mean. That is disappointing for you. Most 1855 death certs show all the children for the deceased, ages at the time of 1855 (helping you work out approx. birth years), including the death year for any children who had died.

Who reported the death?

A shame if the death cert doesn’t help but the recorded birth year together with the birth place of Saltoun as given on Thomas’ 1851 census points to this possible birth record from A/try;

Thomas Heriot birth 25 Jan 1775, baptism 8 Feb 1775 Saltoun, East Lothian.  Parents were Matthew Heriot & Christian Nicolson

Also, given the spelling variations of  Neillings; Neilans and Neilands you have listed in post #4, this may fit Euphemia’s birth:

Euphen Nielens born 24 Oct 1779, baptised 31 Oct 1779 Haddington. Parents were Andrew Nielens & Janet Wait

Notice that the names Matthew, Christian, Andrew and Janet were given to some of Thomas & Euphemia’s children, so both these birth records sit well with the traditional Scottish naming pattern

Thomas died 1855 and all of his kids are named on the certificate and have their ages beside them. Parents Matthew Herriot and Christian or Christina Nicholson.

Good.  So the Saltoun 1775 birth record is correct.  You will find several other children for this couple on family search.

Just looking at other children for Andrew Nielens and Janet Wait I notice she also comes up as Janet Watt.

I did a search on s/p website and used fuzzy names, the 1's you are seeing are the same as the 1's I got which verifies the parents etc.
