I can't decipher it, sorry, but do think that the end of the word is possibly a long 'S' rather than a 'P'

Don't know if that helps

By 1871 she's born in Yorkshire - and she's still a Hutchison.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Don't think it  will be this place, but i saw Kirkwhelpington shortened to Kirkwelp on an old document, so maybe some long name that has been shortened
Northumberland: Young, Parker, Wolens, Keenlyside, Taylor, Costello
Scotland: Dempster, Henderson, Jackson, M(a)cMillan, M(a)cLanders
Ireland (Co.Mayo): Monaghan, Costello

+ all variations of above names.

I wouldn´t be too sure about it being in Northumberland. The same census form shows the head of the household as being born in Rotherham, Northumberland, so either the family or the enumerator were struggling with their geography :)
