What I'd really like some help with is, who was the Hannah Hobday age 29 (corrected I originally put 39), daughter of Frederick, who married Joseph Owens 25 Jul 1875
in 1881 census she is living with William, the brother of Hannah Lines, but she can't be Hannah Lines who is still with William Hobday/Hales
but there is no record of her anywhere before this marriage  ???

Hi again, found it odd that both Hannah & William Hobday at marriage both give Frederick as their father?

William looks to be with this family in 1841/51/61 born in Byfield, Northamptonshire.

1851 Census

John Hobday 57 occ Carpenter b Stretton
Hannah 31 b Byfield
John Eyles 16 b Byfield
William Eyles 12 b Byfield ( in 1841 he is shown as Hales born 1833)?
Charles Hobday 10 b Stretton
Eliza 8 b Stretton
John 5 b Stretton
Census Ref HO107/2070/378/3

The baptism of William looks to be:-

William Eyles 6th June 1838 Byfield Mother Hannah

In 1861 he is a William Hobday 22 occ Silk Throwster b Byfield
Census Ref RG09/2214/133/27

Marriage John Hobday to ( On same page) Hannah Eyles Sept qtr 1839 Coventry 16 359

Now seriously wondering if Hannah Hobday was a daughter of Hannah Eyles/Hales?

PS year of birth for Hannah Hobday c 1836 at marriage, as Hannah Owens c 1846 as per 1881?

Hi again, who were witnesses at Elizabeth Hobday's marriage, and occupation of "Frederick " please?

Still find it odd if my William Eyles is correct, why both he and Hannah state a Frederick?

there is a William Hobday baptised to Frederick and Eliza Hobday in Stretton 02 Jun 1844
with them aged 6 on 1851 census and Frederick is a carpenter

it's odd that on the 1871 census William gives place of birth as Stretton and the same on 1881 with surname Eales but on the 1891 it's Byfield

edited to add: the same Frederick and Eliza did have a daughter Hannah but she was baptised 1854

still no luck on the Hannah Hobday who married Joseph Owens, he is a widower on the 1891 census

William Eales son of Hannah and stepson to John Hobday seems too old to be the husband of Hannah Lines, interestingly though Frederick Hobday is his older stepbrother

Frederick had a son William bap to him and Eliza and of the right age, Frederick and Eliza also bap a daughter Hannah in 1854 who died 1855, so Hannah Hobday marrying Joseph Owens can't be their daughter

questions
why did William Hobday and his wife Hannah nee Lines change theirs and their children's name after 1871 to Eales/Hales? There seems no doubt they did as the 3 children Eliza, Clara and Lily are with them as Hobday in 1871 and Eales in 1881, with the same ages and places of birth for all 5

cross referencing places of birth, registration districts and names it seems that Eliza and Clara may have been registered as Eales, I can't find baptisms for them with either surname, Lily was baptised as Hobday

who was the Hannah Hobday that married Joseph Owens? I can't find any birth or baptism for her, or find her in a census before she married
