William Kavanagh and Kate Moran, Athy
« on: Sunday 15 March 15 00:09 GMT (UK) »
Helloo,

My Great Great Grandfather was William Kavanagh, and his wife, Kate (nee. Moran).
I would assume they were born around 1880 in Athy.

I dont know much more than this except Kate's Father was possibly named William (Bill) Moran.

Here is a picture of Kate,

Any Information would be greatly recieved,

Regards,

Joanna

Do you know how many children they had? Any names?
Where they lived after they were married?

This is a likely marriage

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FYZV-Q6N

Is there a chance they went to Scotland after they married
 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kildare/Athy_Rural/Salisbury/535445/

The age of this couple could be incorrect 10 years is often added on in the hopes of getting a pension.
Do the girls names mean anything to you?

There are records that show that both William and Kate were born in 1868 in the Athy area, William’s baptism was in St Michaels R.C. Parish Church in the town, I could not find Kate’s baptismal record which means that she was baptised in one of the outlying parishes, as she is listed on the civil index records for the Athy area in 1868. Also they didn’t marry in the town, which again suggests that in 1898 when they married, it was in her parish. They were living outside the town in Salisbury in 1911 and from the census we can assume they were in Scotland for a period after they got married as their daughter Janie was born there. William died on the 12/10/1932 aged 62 or 65 address given as Meeting Lane in the town and Kate died on the 23/10/1963 aged 95 address given as St.Josephs Terrace in the town and both were interned  in old St. Michaels Cemetery in Athy.

Apologies for my late reply,
As far as i'm aware, they only had one daughter, Mary Kavanagh (born 1905 in Athy)
I have a marriage certificate for them dated March 1898.
Theres never been anything said in my family about anyone moving to Scotland, but it is always a possibility,
Thanks
Joanna

It's on Ancestry, and is a index only record, i think i heard somewhere that there was a fire and loads of irish records were lost, so that may be why.

Joanna

It can be ordered from the GRO in Roscommon for €4.
Only the index to BMD Certs for any country are online, never the actual Certs.
Church entries are sometimes online which is what Spartan found but doesn't say where.

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

The OP hasn't been online here since March 2015 but may receive notification to reply.

Here's the link to their marriage in 1898. William living in the townland of Russellstown.

Can you provide a link for this birth? I don't see one on ScotlandsPeople.
