I'm trying to find parents / baptism of OH's ancestor Martha Garwood.
She married Samuel Ingate at Bungay on 1st Jan 1811. They had 6 children, Samuel, Rachel, Deborah, Hannah, John and Cornelius. Martha died in 1835, her year of birth calculated from age at death is about 1785. Samuel died the previous year.
They had their first child baptised in an Independent chapel in Bungay. Then they had him rebaptised with all siblings except Cornelius (because he hadn't been born yet) at the C of E church in Kirby Kane where they were living then. Cornelius got himself baptised as an adult, because his parents never got him baptised.
My thoughts are that Martha's family were non-conformists (the Ingates seem to be C of E) and the names of children may be significant.
Samuel's parents were William and Sarah and I believe that Sarah's father was Cornelius Bedingfield, so I think that's where the name comes from.
Martha was about 4 years older than Samuel and I did wonder if she might have been a widow. But Cornelius gave most of his children the middle name Garwood, which I doubt he would have done if it had only been his mother's first married name rather than her maiden name. He was only 4 when she died, so all his knowledge of her family would have been passed on by older siblings or his uncle and aunt who took him in when his parents died.
As the marriage was in Bungay I'm assuming she was from Suffolk, but it's close to the Norfolk border, so that's a possibility.
Any ideas, please?
