Glover Warwickshire (Ryton, Radford)
« on: Monday 16 March 15 20:32 GMT (UK) »
My first visit to this board, please be gentle!!

My problem is this. Mr William Glover was, apparently, born in Radford in 1830.

He married Lucy Eaton, and had children in Ryton on Dunsmore.

Now, trouble is I am struggling to find Williams parents. There is an Elias Glover born 1790 who appears to be a possible father, but no mother. Elias appears with a spouse in later Cencus data in 1851 but i suspect this is a second marraige. in 1841 he is with children, but only Martha appears in both.

So would someone be kind enough to cross reference some of this? i dont have local knowledge so i may be missing obvious links.

Ta muchly

Mike

Well the easiest way is to obtain the marriage certificate for William & Lucy which will (should) give his father's name.

Details are

Marriage Sep 1857 Rugby 6d 559
William Glover
Lucy Eaton
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Have you found William Glover in the 1841 and 1851 census?
(But the obvious way to find his Father is the marriage certificate)

Hi
I agree the easiest way is to get the marriage certificate.

I notice that William is a carpenter and joiner.  I have a Coventry apprentice enrolment disc and there is a William Glover who enrolled in 1843 as a carpenter joiner & cabinet maker.  William Glover's father is listed as William a coal merchant, this William and his family are living in hill street Coventry in 1841.

The William Glover with father Elias was enrolled as an apprentice watchmaker.

Had you noticed that he gave his birthplace as Coventry in 1881 (has he died by 1891?)
Any thoughts on this, and where did you think he was in 1841 and 1851?
Also, how did you get back to him - through one of his children?

Looking at other trees, and there are many, go back as far as William wright/lucy Eaton marraige. We know the family settled in Ryton on Dunsmore and had children - William and Lucy being recorded as parents -

I need to add a few more of there offspring to the tree.

Its odd though that none of the trees go back further than William and Lucy, save a couple that identify Elias as the father of the older William.

All good fun.
