I really can't say but I have a cousin known as his grandfather's name
When he was born our grandfather enquired of his children
when would there be a child named after him?!

He had already been registered and baptised by another name to which he is never referred!

I'd also be cautious of rootsireland transcriptions as I have encountered several errors
Kearney & Bourke/ Johns & Fox/ Mannion & Finan/ Donohoe & Curley
Byrne [Carthy], Keeffe/ Germaine, Butler/ McDermott, Giblin/ Lally, Dolan
Toole, Doran; Dowling, Grogan/ Reilly, Burke; Warren, Kidd [Lawless]/ Smith, Scally; Mangan, Rodgers/ Fahy, Calday; Staunton, Miller
Further generations:
Brophy Coleman Eathorn(e) Fahy Fitzpatrick Geraghty Haverty Keane Keogh Nowlan Rowe Walder

thanks for that extra bit of info on name variants

i was wondering that as on roots ireland you cant see the original copy of their records that the abigail pilcher ( bapt record from roots ireland )could have been a misinterpretation as i have photos with letters on the back to my nan sent by her from the 1940 s /50 s and she calls herself bynah

as the only record i have of her mum mary verlings mum down as abigail keefe ( also from roots ireland ) whether both names really where bynah and they ve both been transcribed wrong ??

but its odd that on both canadian records of her and her husbands death certs she s down as abigail and those 2 records are definalely them ??

thanks cathie x

I think she was probably both Bynah and Abigail. Parents and rest of family probably knew her as Bynah (this was the name her father registered her as), baptised as Abigail (after her grandmother) and known as Bynah in Waterford. Once she came up to Belfast she probably decided to use Abigail and then continued to use it on formal documents but in letters to relatives she'd put Bynah (since that was the name they would have known her by).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

My Bourkes are Kilkenny back to the early 1800s
Various spellings through the years as with many surnames

a Jane Keeffe married John Bourke in Kilkenny in 1879
Her parents were a James Keeffe soldier and Judith Grogan
James was described on the marriage record as a deceased soldier
James was possibly from Waterford from army records but its a very difficult period to find records to confirm connections
Kearney & Bourke/ Johns & Fox/ Mannion & Finan/ Donohoe & Curley
Byrne [Carthy], Keeffe/ Germaine, Butler/ McDermott, Giblin/ Lally, Dolan
Toole, Doran; Dowling, Grogan/ Reilly, Burke; Warren, Kidd [Lawless]/ Smith, Scally; Mangan, Rodgers/ Fahy, Calday; Staunton, Miller
