Browns in Seaton
« on: Thursday 19 March 15 13:50 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

In the 1891 and 1901 censuses there's a record of a William Brown born around 1849 in Seaton, Rutland. He's living in the north east by 1891. His wife, Sarah Jane is from Ryton, Durham. Thing is the first record I can find of either of them is the 1891 census.

Any help or pointers would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

It's possible I suppose and would certainly add an interesting twist to a tale! His eldest child was born not many years later though so if this was him his must have been one of the happier endings for an inmate of Broadmoor, not that I know much about Broadmoor, it just evokes a picture of a institution that once contained within its walls it's very hard to leave.

;D So we can possibly sort out the Broadmoor patient, he was the son of William & Elizabeth Brown shown on 1851 census as Will Chris Brown b c 1849 Seaton residing at Seaton Hill
Census ref HO107/2093/316/24

The marriage to Sarah Jane would help?

Hi,

First of all thanks to both of you for responding. I'm afraid I don't have any information other than what's in the two census records. This is my wife's side of the family and it's full of holes! The 1851 census gives me a bit more to go on though.

The marriage to Sarah Jane would indeed help! Alas none of the family seem to know her maiden name.

Mike

Mike, a birth certificate for any of the children would provide her maiden name?

In Nov 1873 in Middlesbrough, a William Christopher Brown, 22, miner, killed his 4yo son William and tried to take his own life.  His wife's parents lived in Henry Street, Middlesbrough.

Oh dear!  :'(

Oh dear indeed! Our William is shown as being a coal miner in the 1891 census so maybe it could be him.

It seems I need to work on this birth certificate. It's Joseph Brown, born 1900 in Blaydon who is my wife's g grandfather.

Thanks for all the tips!

Mike
