OPR Marriage query
« on: Thursday 19 March 15 21:44 GMT (UK) »
In 1837 my 2x great grandparents requested the banns be proclaimed at Urr Parish Church.  My question is why would another man be mentioned as representing the bride?

The entry goes as follows : William Shaw and James Brown representing Margaret Watt all of this parish........

Thanks

Tom

the other man would be a Cautioner. This was usually a relative, maybe even father, but someone in good standing in the Church.
