Waterloo Medal Roll Lookup Please.
« on: Friday 20 March 15 13:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi All.
Could some kind person please lookup the Waterloo Medal Rolls for a Samuel/Saml Willetts,  I am hoping this could be my GGG/Grandfather as his son John Willetts born 1817 my GG/Grandfather stated on the 1851 Dudley census that his place of birth was Dover Castle Kent.
Samuel Willetts was born 1780 at Old Swinford Worcestershire and he married Prudence Walker in 1811 at Kingswinford Worcestershire and died about 1820. Any help will be really appreciated.
Regards Dave.

There's a record from 1815 is this the one you are referring to?

Shows the following:

Regiment:
 capt farmer's coy no 7

 Brigade:
 Capt Farmer's Coy No 7

 Battalion:
 23rd

Hi All.
Could anyone tell me if it is possible to find out where Saml Willetts enlisted to join the 23 Regiment, were there any enlistment records or discharge records?. I am trying to confirm if this Saml Willetts was in fact my GGG/Grandfather. Any help will be really appreciated.
Regards Dave.

Hi Dave

His record, which would have included his attestation and discharge forms, does not appear to have been kept. This usually means he was not awarded a pension. Lots of men were recruited for limited service, ie seven years, in this period. You will need to research the muster books in the National Archives starting with 1815, then working forwards until he is discharged, dies or is transferred to another regiment. His last entry may give his place of birth. It not, you have to work backwards until he is recruited. His first and last entries give a reasonable chance of giving his place of birth, age etc. failing that it should say where he was enlisted.

Next best is to research if he was conscripted into the Worcestershire Militia, starting by contacting the local Record Office who may have details of the lists draw up and the men selected. The musters for the Militia are in Kew under Worcester
