Can any one help please.

I want to look to see who is living at the George Inn Brithdir in the Rhymney Valley in the 1891 and 1901 Census but I seem to be unable to find it.

Can anyone help please.

Hi Roy,
Thank you very much for the reply I have now located those two census's. Funnily I can not find John Thomas before that - there are so many of them!!!

The reason why I was interested in the George Inn was this -
I am researching Thomas Rees - a building Contractor (besides other things!) from Merthyr Vale. He married an Elizabeth Jennet Thomas in 1907 whose father was a John Thomas, Hotel Proprietor Deceased.

I am following up any lead at all with a John Thomas relating to an Inn or Hotel. I found this John Thomas from the George Inn applying for a licence in Oct 1891. The article also mentioned Thomas Rees doing some work at the George Inn.

So far I can not find but would like to find John Thomas in the earlier census 1881 to see if there is a connection.

Thank you for your help

Not related to this topic but taking the opportunity to post this photo for you Roy.  Its either a snuff or tabacco box presented to my grandfather from the George Inn.

Hi
That's brilliant and thank you for sending the image.  Do you have any history behind the box, why it was presented to him etc.  I can see on the 1891 he was a 19 year old coal miner.  Would you mind if I use the photo to reproduce in the book I am currently writing on the history of George Inn/Brithdir. If you have any other details on him and/or possibly a photograph which will enhance his story then I would appreciate a copy.  I've been searching everyone and everything with a connection to the village for the past several years and thought it high time I start writing the book.

Kind Regards, Roy

Hi Ray
Looks a proud Welshman and a proud collier.  The snuff box is the second I have seen for a Brithdir man.

Thanks for the PM

My great Grandmother was born at George Inn Brithdir Tce in 1873. On the Census for 1881 the address is shown as 11 George Inn Row. Would this mean that she was born at a terrace house ajoining the George Inn or actually at the George Inn? Her birth certificate just says Brithdir Tce. On the 1881 Census she is Mary James (age 8) (head of house John James, wife Mary James and son Mansel James (age 3)

Sorry this has come along years after the original post but Roy (Dannemois) seems to have a bit of a special interest in George Inn Brithdir

Thanks for your time,
Julie
