One last question on Sarah. Where is St Barts located? Would it be in London City? There is a possible reference for the death certificate Q1 1902 London C 1c 16. Does this sound right?

On a wider prospective, this thread seems to have sorted out both Sophia and Sarah. Thanks very much for all the help in bringing this to a great solution.

But the following children are still a bit of a puzzle:

Eliza Caroline (b 29 jan 1821) - very unclear still

Mary Ann (b 29 May 1834) - also very unclear

William (b c1841) - very unclear, possibly went into military (see earlier in the thread)

Plus I am also still missing a DOB for James (b c1837), though I have found his two marriages and death.

Thanks for all the help so far, some amazing sleuthing. But as always in this game, you never reach the end, as the above comments confirm!

John Charles Skerman was single and lived at 3, Manor Road Waltham Abbey does not seem to be any connection to the family

That's really interesting as in 1841 the family were living in Chapel Place, Long Lane, Bermondsey. Eliza aged 18 was living with her parents, James and Frances.

Where did you find this snippet?

I'm a little confused by the non-conformist label, for as far as I know the family were CofE. Certainly Eliza was baptised in the established church at St Mary's in Newington.

Does anyone know what the non-parochial reference refer to?

Ooops,sorry-I wandered away for a while.

It's from A*try-England & Wales, Non-Conformist and Non-Parochial Registers, 1567-1970

The death is registered Sept. Qtr 1858 St George Southwark.

Many thanks. I did actually find it whilst you were away.

As you can see, I have modified my response, having found it, to wonder about the non-conformist tag. I have no problem with a non-conformist background though I am a little surprised as she was baptised in the established church. The address is very interesting, though the family had moved from Long Lane by 1851.

Its very tempting. The age is right. And the address does relate to the family, albeit in 1841 rather than 1851, but still the same area.

I think I might have to bite and order the certificate. The informant might be revealing, especially as her mother was still alive.
