Chapeltown Braes of Glenlivet - BEATTIE
« on: Saturday 21 March 15 02:58 GMT (UK) »
Beginning to help a friend solve a challenge. Any advice on accessing burial records for the Catholic church in Chapeltown Braes of Glenlivet? The surname I'm interested in is BEATTIE burials from 1900 onwards.

Any advice on genealogy records for this town/village greatly appreciated.

thanks
matt

I presume that you have looked at the Roman Catholic records at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk ?

If so, LIBINDX http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp might be your best bet.

Chapeltown is not a town in the modern sense of the word. It is just a handful of houses around the Roman Catholic church. See http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ2421

It is in the parish of Inveravon, so any statutory civil registrations (births, marriages and deaths) will come under the registration district of Inveravon until 1958, when Inveravon ceased to be a registration district.

Also, although it is in the council area now called Moray, it is not in the historic county of Moray, but in the County of Banff, also called Banffshire (but never 'Banff County' or 'County Banff').
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi Forfarian, thanks so much for that info.

FYI (anyone reading) I've now put up a blog post on this man and family with everything known in the hope that we can elicit help or information from someone:
