Susannah Miskelly - born Belfast c1851
« on: Saturday 21 March 15 05:53 GMT (UK) »
My paternal great grandmother Susannah Miskelly born in Belfast 1851 -1853 emigrated to New Zealand in 1869 arriving with a sister or perhaps a cousin Margaret Miskelly in June 1869.

She married Thomas Viner CRUNDWELL in Wellington, NZ in 1872 and signed her marriage document with an "X". She stated that her father was Owen Miskelly and her mother Rose McGreevy (or McGrevey).

I have been unable to verify any information about Susannah or her parents.

Could any kind Belfast based Rootschatter help me uncover any information leading to this brickwall being kicked down. It would be very very much appreciated.

The Ulster Historical Foundation website has potential siblings for Susannah in the guise of County Down baptisms for a Patrick Miskelly in 1841 and a Hugh Miskelly in 1843, in both cases the parents are Owen Miskelly and Rose McGreevy, record content is pay to view.

BTW, what is the Armagh connection?

That's very interesting -  any information on a marriage of Owen and Rose?

Thanks for the link

Hi,
PRONI has a reference to a will of Owen Miskelly and it references his wife, Rose. See http://applications.proni.gov.uk/DCAL_PRONI_WillsCalendar/WillsSearch.aspx Unfortunately there is no image of the will.

Thanks for that - any suggestions on finding the death of his widow, Rose Miskelly?

Cheers

Hi,
Cannot find the death but there are several Miskellys mentioned in the Ros Davies Surname site. See http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/SURNAMES/Afrontpage.htm

Have you posted this on Armagh board by mistake? if so, just click on 'report to moderator' and ask for the thread to be moved to Down board (since that's where the details of the family are being found).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

GRONI online has a death registered in Newtownards district for an Owen Miskelly who died on 22 April 1907 (slightly out from the PRONI will calendar index entry posted previously).  However, the reported age is only 40, so unlikely to be the Owen (and Rose) you want.

There is a Reference for the Will of Owen Miskelly on the Familysearch website. Its states, Owen Miskelly, Died 29th April 1907, a Quarryman from Ballygowan, County Down. The personal estate was granted to the Widow, Rose Miskelly.

In the Records of the GRONI website, there is a Rose Miskelly who died 7th April 1915, in Belfast, aged 73.

Hope this helps
