Lone & McNamee of Desertmartin
« on: Sunday 22 March 15 16:32 GMT (UK) »
Wondering if there might still be living relatives of my Ancestor John Lone that remained in the Magherafelt area.
Great grandfather  John Lone was baptized  25 Jan 1852 Desertmartin. Address given as  Rosegarland.  Sponsors were Gabriel  Toner & Nancy Henderson. Sisters,  Ann (1849) & Bridget (1854) list address as Grange.  Parents were John Lone & Susie McNamee.  I've located a John Loan in Grange in the 1859 Griffiths, which I assume would be his father.
John emigrated to the US abt 1882. 1st wife Mary Macaulay (b Scotland); 2nd wife Ann Nolan (b. Dublin); Sister Ann emigrated abt 1872 married Wilbur John McConnell (b. Canada). Have no information on Bridget.

You shouldn't assume that the John Lone in Griffith's Valuation is the father of your John Lone. You can, however, trace the details of a property in the Valuation Revision Books at PRONI- from the printed version of Griffith to about 1930. PRONI now have these online (free)-

Oh, if only that were true.  I keep getting an error 403(Forbidden) message whenever I try to search proni.gov.uk.

Okay, had to switch computers to access site.  Sure is tough getting old.  My daughter told me my computer is too old and slow but using her laptop makes me feel old and slow.

Looks like John Loan of Grange lost his property (or died) abt 1884 so he still seems a viable father for my John.

Hi.
It's probably a transcription error but I can find the marriage of  John HONE to a SALLY McNamee on 12 Feb 1848 in Desertmartin R.C. Church.

Update.
I was able to find Bridget Lone.  She also emigrated to the US.  She married James Egan from Scotland and settled in the NY NJ area.
