John FITZGERALD - Death 1847

Hi,

Just wondering if some kind soul has access to SA Death records for 1847 and would be able to do a look up for me?

John FITZGERALD died 1847 - I believe he was only a young child.  Born Ireland and arrived Adelaide 1846.   Registration of Death: 1/83

Father: William Fitzgerald
Mother: Mary ?  (who also died the same year).

Not sure if records will show any additional information but worth a try!

Death certificates in SA do not show the name of the mother in 1847.

FITZGERALD William, Mary (wife, d aft arr), Ellen, child (John?) arrived in SA 31 Jul 1846 aboard CANTON from London 27 Apr 1846 via Plymouth [Source:6,7(T BLOFFWITCH),10,20(+W WILSON)]

I very  much doubt Ellen was a daughter as she is listed as an immigrant in her own right and Mary was aged 25 when she died at in Dec 1846.

The newspaper list of immigrants has Wm FITZGERALD, wife and one child.  Further down the page Ellen FITZGERALD.  A young child would not be listed separately.

No more information than that already supplied by Cando.

TROVE has at least 3 similar mentions of the arrival of the ship Canton, Friday 31 July, 1846.
Passenger list, travelling in steerage includes: William FITZGERALD, wife and one child.  Ellen FITZGERALD is listed quite separately.
