Hello,

John's birth certificate and Mary's marriage certificate should give you her maiden name.

I can't see it easily either even though there are eight possible baptisms for Joseph and Mary Webster in Repton from 1816 to 1839, the marriage doesn't seem to be there.

I agree with Heywood, maybe you should get the marriage certificate of Mary Webster and Matthew Mately as it will show her father's name, which is possibly foreign.

There is a tree which claims the Webster/ Ingham marriage but with no evidence and I think I saw one which had Mary as Round, again no evidence.

The marriage of Joseph Webster to Mary Ingham has them both of Bradby. 1851 has a couple of these names born Bretby which is the same place apparently.

Many thanks it looks like you have given support to my thinking that it isn't the Mary Ingram couple I'll ask my cousin to send for the marriage certificate of Mary and Mathew Mately His Webster daughter of Mary was born pre registration so I will need to persuade him to also send for her marriage certificate that should solve both problems.
Later census for Mary Mately show her as born British subject at sea. Where would such a birth be registered? Obviously Mary is pre registration ...but for future use? The only births outside Britain i have are the military ones so one chap was registered in Chatham his father's home base but his censuses have born at sea.
Meanwhile I'll have a look at the Mary Round just in case
Many thanks

Hi

There may be a possibility that Mary, may have been telling porkies about her age, and you may have the correct Mary

Hi,

Joseph Webster who died September Quarter 1840.

On www.familysearch.org

There is a burial of Joseph Webster 9th August 1840 Repton, aged 61 born abt 1779.

There is also a christening for a Joseph Webster 1.6.1779 Repton son of Joseph Webster & Sarah.

Spendlove
Sorry forgot to add 1841 Census Mary Webster is living in Milton Derbyshire which is about 1 mile
from Repton.  Milton has no church which explains a burial in Repton.
