Douglas Henry George Nash
« on: Wednesday 25 March 15 09:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to find more details of the birth of Douglas Henry George Nash, all i can find is that he was born in the Isle of Wight in 1866 but cannot find any registration record. Parents were Thomas Nash, mother Jane Anne Nash (nee Jones). Douglas went on to marry Laura Radburn 16th October 1892 in Clapham London. I can trace him in census' but with no further details.
Can any one help please?
Thanks

It's possible that the birth was not registered. Registration was not compulsory until 1875.

He had a lot of siblings, were they all registered ok? **

I have a missing one myself from around that time (1864) all siblings registered but not her.

** I see he is the only one born IOW from the 1881 census
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Hi

Yes he is the only one born IOW, might have been on holiday or something. Guess they did not register the birth.

Was hoping someone might see something i have missed.

Thanks

Pre-1875, there was no compulsion to register a birth unless the registrar was given notice of it.

  • If the birth was  registered within 6 weeks, there was no fee
  • If the birth was not registered within 6 weeks, there was a fee of 7s 6d
  • If the birth was not registered within 6 months, it could not be registered at all.
