Albert Edward SMITH b1892c
« on: Wednesday 25 March 15 13:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi. I or rather my friend is looking for info on her Grandad & I'm as stuck as she is! He was born in 1892 or there about's. Date is from his marriage certificate. He married as a widower on 4/12/1917 in Newport to Mary Elizabeth Belch (maiden name Nicholas, she was a widow). Both give their age as 24. We don't know where Albert was born only that his father was called James, a deceased confectioner (master). He died in 1958 in Caerphilly & a certificate has been ordered. I've tried looking at all sorts of records & like my friend have hit a brick wall. Does anyone have any ideas? The only other thing is that he was listed as a private, Royal (Worcestershire, I think) Regiment & in brackets coal hewer. Any help gratefully received with thanks. Suzanne.

Hi

Don't see a Nicholas / Belch marriage, yet, but do see this
Mary E Broad / Evan Belch
1915 Jul-Aug-Sep Newport  11a 577

Found his first marriage yet?

Who was Mary E's father from the marriage cert?

Hi Ray. I think she's followed Mary's line, it's Albert's she stuck with. Her father was Daniel Nicholas though. He was also a hewer.

Hi

My ocd says to check what detail you/your friend has got.
In that respect, reviewing may find something previously missed or that which can be highlighted.

Help us to help you?
Full marriage certificate details?

Cheers!
Ray
