Thank you dawnsh. Finally I checked the British Guiana website and there they were on the 1896 Census living in the Penal Colony of Mazaruni, British Guiana.  Bernard Vidal Shaw Snr. for most of his time in British Guiana (1888-1916) was Superintendant of Prisons. Bernard Jnr. later to become Sir Bernard Vidal Shaw, was 5 years old on the census and born in British Guiana. The prison is still in operation 119 years after the Shaws were there.
