possible Walter ALLISON birth help
« on: Thursday 26 March 15 03:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Was wondering if someone could help me find any births for a Walter Allison born from 1795-1805. My great great great great grandfather Walter married in Scotland in 1827 but there no records that could say he was born there and I know records were scares back then but on the Scottish 1841 census is says "N" next to if he was born in Scotland but his wifes says "yes" and I have a birth record for her so wondering if he maybe moved to Scotland later on. walter married Isabella Gilmour in 1827 in Glasgow. He died sometimes between 1845 after his last child and 1851 census as hes gone and his wife is down as a widow. Names that might help try relate him to his parents could be William, Robert, John, Mathew, Jane, Margaret and Helen (Robert and Helen most likely were named after Isabellas parents). there is a birth in Scotland for 1798 but recently discovered a family tree with the same birth and different information so think ive mistook that Walter for my own on familysearch.org

Any help would be good, thanks

Isabella and Walter in 1841

Piece: SCT1841/651 Place: New Monkland -Lanarkshire Enumeration District: 7
Civil Parish: New Monkland Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: Airdrie
Folio: 10 Page: 26
Address: Graham Street

Surname First name(s) Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks
CAMPBELL William M 27 Stone Mason Lanarkshire
CAMPBELL Marget F 23 Lanarkshire
CAMPBELL Helen F 1 Lanarkshire
ALISON Walter M 40 Agricultural Labourer Outside Census County (1841)
ALISON Isobella F 32 Lanarkshire
ALISON Jean F 9 Outside Census County (1841)
GILMOUR Andrew M 20 Coal Miner Lanarkshire

Isabella is a widow in 1851 so it looks like Walter died sometime between 1844 - 1851

*Can anyone interpret this census, does  'Outside Census County (1841)' mean they were born outside of Lanarkshire.

Familysearch seems to think that Jean and Walter were born in Scotland.

'JEAN ALISON - Christening: 24 FEB 1833 Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire'
Wemyss/Crombie/Laing/Blyth (West Wemyss)
Givens/Normand (Dysart)
Clark/Lister (Dysart)

A possible birth for Walter Alison:

Walter Alison
birth,15 January 1798
christening, 21 January 1798
WEST OR OLD PARISH, GREENOCK, RENFREW, SCOTLAND
residence,1798, Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland

father, James Alison
mother, Janet Anderson

Jean/Janet could be interchangable. This is just a theory, you'd need to prove
it with paperwork or other evidence somehow. If this is the one linked to another familytree, where did they get their evidence from?

(Example, I have official paperwork from scotlandspeople for parentage of one of my ancestors that appears incorrectly on another persons tree)
Wemyss/Crombie/Laing/Blyth (West Wemyss)
Givens/Normand (Dysart)
Clark/Lister (Dysart)
Wilkinson/Simson (Kettle or Kettlehill)
