Drant!
« on: Friday 27 March 15 10:00 GMT (UK) »
My tree has led to the name "Drant" (twice - I think a 1st cousin marriage may be involved), around 1780-1820

It appears that the Drants were around Hull - and then married/moved to Grimsby.

But I am struggling to find records.

I have a small family tree derived from baptisms found on familysearch;

father: George Drant, wife: Susannah, children Susannah b1824, Sarah Ann b1825, Margaret b1827, George b1828, all baptised at Holy Trinity Hull.

I have a (so far separate) Ann Drant b1791, who married a Thomas Kennington in 1809, Grimsby, Lincs.

Susannah and Sarah Ann Drant were living in the household of Ann and Thomas in 1841 census; I suspect them of being Ann (Senr) Drant's nieces.

Then William Kennington (b1814, Grimsby, son of Ann and Thomas) married Susannah Drant.

I can find no more than this; I have dug into anc*str and familysearch pretty desparately.

Am I missing a well known source of "Humber" records?

An excellent nugget of information - thank you!

Which gives a George Drant being born in 1781, of course. If that's right he was 43 when Susanna was born.

He died soon after George's birth in 1828, poor soul, if this George is indeed the husband of Susanna and father of the four children.

Aargh! Typical of the day, she didn't even rate her own Christian name in a death notice.

It's not only offensive sexism, it's inconvenient!

And my BNA account terminated 2 days ago...

Pigot's directory of 1818,1819,1820 (on Ac*stry) gives a
George Drant in its list of Tallow Chandlers, at 14, Trundle St

By 1826, White's has

Drant, George, gent. North Parade, Beverly Rd.

1828, Pigot also has him as a gent, same address.

Is a tallow chandler a gent, or are these 2 people?
