To Crisane,

Sorry, I meant to also thank you for the information about his marriage - that was completely new to me and will be very useful in my investigation.

The marriage is on FreeBMD http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
Just enter his name and it comes up in 1948.  He has the middle initial J

Thanks Crisane,

His middle name was Jozef - so that sounds right!  Thank you

Specifically to Whiteout7,

Your comment about the disbandment of the Squadron is entirely accurate and he joined the Polish Resettlement Corps (which meant that he was still in the Air Force for a maximum of two years).  Instead of returning to Poland, moving into UK civilian life or emigrating, he chose to stay in the RAF - so his service was unbroken.

To all who have responded,

With incredible speed - thanks to you all - I believe that I have made contact with his son.  I am particularly grateful to Whiteout7 for his/her help with this contact.  I will keep you all informed of what happens

I have not been able to find an email address but I have found the full postal address so a letter is on its way.  I have been advised that he was advertising photographic services from an address in Hull which appears to be a private house.  This may have been whilst he was doing his two years in the Polish Resettlement Corps (still RAF) training for civilian life.

Evidently he decided to stay on in the RAF.  Time will tell.
