John Broughton Barker (b.c 1815/1821) & family
« on: Sunday 29 March 15 11:07 BST (UK) »
John Broughton Barker was born in around 1815 - 1821 in Leicestershire.   Mariner and Victualler by trade.

I can't read the exact place of birth on the 1851 census as its not very clear and slightly written over.  Reference is HO107; Piece: 2184; Folio: 18; Page: 29.  The link on FindMyPast is sending me to a totally different street and page so can't check if they have a clearer copy to check his place of birth or age (could be 30 or 36 in 1851).

He marries Sarah Fletcher on 14 December 1846 in Liverpool. JBB's father was called William, a Farmer

They have one child Sophia Jane who was registered in January 1852 in Liverpool.   A second child, Fanny, is registered in Liverpool in October 1853.  If there are older children between 1846 and 1852 I can't currently find them.

1861 Sarah is widowed and living with both children with her sister and brother in law  (RG 9; Piece: 2651; Folio: 227; Page: 28)

I am stuck on finding JBB's death.  There is a death registered in Yorkshire in 1851 for a John Broughton Barker but that was a 1 year old baby.

After the 1861 census, the family seemed to split up.    I have lost Sarah completely after that.

Sophia Jane is unmarried and in service and/or boarding in and around Liverpool in 1871, 1881 and 1901 (lost her in 1891).

Fanny is unmarried too, working as a Cigar Maker and boarding in and around Liverpool in 1881 and 1
1891. 1901 she is with her cousin.  The sisters are never living with each other after 1861.

I wonder if anyone could assist in finding:

JBB's death.
Sarah's death/where she went after 1861
Where Fanny was in 1871
Fanny's death
Where Sophia Jane was in 1891
Sophia Jane's death

Thanks

although baptised 24th aug 1851 - he could have been born early 1851 and baptised when dad came home off his trip as a sailor ?- or - he may not be a brother to Sarah Jane and Fanny ...
Baptism: 24 Aug 1851 St John the Baptist, Toxteth, Liverpool ,Lancashire, England
William Barker - [Child] of John Barker & Sarah
Abode: Toxteth Park
Occupation: Shipsmith
Baptised by: J. Hassall Perpetual Curate
although a Shipsmith usually worked on a ship in port - they did go out to sea to do repairs during trips - and being in Liverpool , the busiest seaport in the world at that time , ships couldn't spend a lot of time in dock
so -William looks to be a good possibility - but how do you prove it ??
